This hitch gives your vehicle real capability for towing and carrying gear. With a 6,000-lb maximum gross trailer weight and a 900-lb tongue weight rating, it’s ready for small campers, boats, utility trailers, or heavier bike racks. The standard 2" x 2" receiver opening fits the most common ball mounts, cargo carriers, and hitch racks, so you can switch between towing and gear-hauling without adapters. It’s rated Class III and tested in accordance with SAE J684 for safety.
Once installed, only the receiver tube and safety chain loops are visible. The cross tube mounts behind the bumper for a hidden look that blends in with the vehicle’s lines. You get a factory-style appearance instead of a bulky add-on hanging down below the rear fascia.
The hitch is fully welded steel for solid strength and long-term durability. A gloss black powder coat finish is applied over a protective base layer that resists corrosion inside and out. It’s co-cured in a rust-resistant liquid A-coat and features an open-back receiver that makes it easier to keep clean after towing or driving in bad weather.
You don’t need to weld or drill to mount this hitch—it bolts directly to the frame using included hardware. The precision, robotic welds line up accurately with existing mounting points for a custom fit. The kit comes complete with a hardware pack and detailed instructions, so anyone comfortable with basic tools can tackle the install in a garage or driveway.

This is the 5th hitch we have purchased through ETRAILER.com
everything has been quality. The shipping is super fast. The customer service is great.. This is how companies should operate. I'm thankful and will ALWAYS us them
Hitch is nice and went on fairly easily. Instructions missing descriptive step for removal of screws in each wheel well. Also not sure it was necessary to trim heat shield at each end of the bumper as it would have not affected install (a reason why in the instructions would be nice).
Perfect fit
Easy to install with clear instructions. Well packaged by etrailer rather than drop shipped as some other suppliers do. Appreciate the thorough tracking and follow up email once the product arrived.
Recommend keeping the car keys out of range of the vehicle or disconnecting the battery so you don't accidently trigger the rear hatch sensor while you're removing the rear facial.
Delivery was prompt and followed up by CS. I used the excellent video and had it installed solo in 1.5 hours (without wirimg harness). I only had to bend the heat shield up in the middle like he said in the video, no cutting except the center of the underside of the fascia. I'll write another after I do the wiring harness.
This is my second hitch set up from etrailer and I'm very pleased with both purchases.
Customer service is outstanding!!!!
Fit like a glove, great quality. Good instructions would recommend and purchase again.
Instructions and video were very helpful, made installation go very smoothly.
Great looking and great customer service
Great fit and easy install after watching the video. The fascia trimming was very minor and easier than expected. One of the mounting bolts is somewhat inaccessible but with a proper combination of ratchet extensions, it's possible. Installed in about an hour.
It fit with just a little modification to the bumper shroud on my Volvo xc60 it holds a bike rack with an e-mountain bike without any issues.great product and installation videos thanks. The only improvement would be to recommend an electrical adaptor for a trailor
Sturdy and easy to use hitch. I had it installed professionally and use it with my bike rack.
Does not fit a 2020 XC60. The hitch isn’t wide enough to clear the upper lip of the rear faceplate. Curt sent me a replacement, but it was actually narrower than the first. I even tried bending the hitch slightly to gain clearance, but it made no difference. It seems Curt may have based the hitch’s design on the XC90, whose rear faceplate differs from the XC60. On the XC90, the top lip is less pronounced, providing more clearance, unlike the more aggressive lip on the XC60, which causes interference.
I decided to just go for trailer hitch receiver for my Volvo XC90 from etrailer as they have a good reviews and video of DIY installation. My son actually started the installation work while I was finishing up my yard work, just checking on him from time to time. It took him exactly 2 hours from start to finish. The hard part was just removing the bumper cover being it's a plastic and he was trying not to damage/cracked the part. We have not installed the wiring harness yet. Its's plug and play. The hitch itself is a bit heavy but really easy to install. The instruction says we can just use the 3 existing bolts and nuts or if wanted, add the the 4th one that came with the hitch. This will just be use for occasional 5x8 yard trailer and maybe bike rack. With this hitch, I don't have to think about going back to buying another truck in the next couple of years, saving me money.
Took it off my 2018 XC90 and a direct fit, installed on my 2022 XC90 T6 Inscription and no cutting required u like my 2018.
Fit well and came with all the hardware. Took about 2 hours to install
Looks great. I haven't installed it yet, but Carter and the team have done a fantastic job, quick delivery and very informative throughout the entire process.
Four bolts per side required for stated towing capacity, only three bolts per side on bumper currently on 2018 Volvo XC 16. Curt supplies a handy Bolt for each side, but unfortunately, the bumper doesn’t have a hole for the 4th bolt. It wasn’t that hard rectify, but some drilling is required. Otherwise, great product!
I’d prefer the tow hooks be on the sides, I’m not sure why they made it on the bottom. I haven’t scraped anything, but reading another review makes me wonder. I had my mechanic install this hitch and the foot activated tail gate still works. 2019 XC60 T6
Thanks etrailer I got my hitch sooner than expected and you guys had the best price. Also I love that you guys have the installation videos. I highly recommend etrailer!!
Easy installation instructions. Well made quality product. Definitely would recommend getting second set of hands to help remove the bumper cover other than that installation went smooth.
This hitch says it fits Volvo XC60 2019 model but it doesn't. Please mark this hitch as not compatible with this car model.

I just heard back from Curt and this is what they said to me asking if there were any issues they had any issues with fitment on the XC60: Only one in our feedback system. And it was determined at that time to be incidental contact and not an issue. It's always a snug fit on those, but the areas shown it looks to need a little massaging to make it fit. Have you tried torquing everything down to see if it did kind of push itself into place?
Not quite the great fit/easy install I've come to expect from the hitches I've bought from Etrailer. Bought this for my son's 2018 XC60 and I am pretty sure it was the same one I bought for our XC90. The price for this hitch was right-on but it required way more muscle to get it installed on the XC60 than I hoped and, if there were ANY remotely affordable alternatives, would most definitely returned the Curt. Other negative reviewers have documented the fit issues pretty well so I will only mention them - the upper inside corners of the face plates have a significant interference fit with a body/frame contour AND the 2 facia/trim hangers absolutely interfere with the main/horizontal tube the hitch. The solution to the 1st interference is brute force tightening of the mounting bolts which kind of just smashes and displaces stuff till the face plates sit flush - I would not have gone ahead with this step, based on past easy installation experiences, if there were other affordable hitch options.
The second problem is the facia hangers AND honestly my biggest issue is the utter lack of their interference and how to work around this being addressed or even mentioned in passing in the installation video. The instructions that came with the hitch suggest "gentle" bending of these hangers out of the way while putting the hitch in position. These thin but coined metal hangers required A LOT of force to bend, first out of the way and then back into some semblance of position where the facia could be aligned and attached back to them after the hitch was installed. It required a lot of iterative bending, positioning, taking the facia back off, more bending, positioning etc till I got things a place that felt reasonable.
Lastly... the internal bumper is not directly addressed. I think if you're requiring permanent removal of something like a bumper from the vehicle, you should probably directly discuss this. I figured out a way to re-install ours but only because I saw it in place on another reviewer's post AND had replaced the bumper on the previous XC90 installation.
Fair enough they rate this install as a 10 out of 10 for difficulty but I would have appreciated a little more transparency here as well as the top notch installation videos I've experienced previously from etrailer.
Just my 2-cents.
This is a good hitch but with a design flaw. The safety chain eyelets are welded below the hitch - I’ve scrapped the eyelets several times while driving through a dip. The vehicle clearance is fine but the eyelets should have been placed on the sides (like most trailer hitches). This bothered me so I cut the eyelets off with an angle grinder and re-welded them to the sides (where they should have been placed). See photo for the improved hitch design.
We found great pricing and a free shipping promotion on eTrailer. The custom packaging was well done and the hitch and wiring arrived in perfect condition. This 2020 Volvo XC90 is new to me so I was hesitant to tear it apart, but the step by step videos helped tremendously. The end result looks great. Thanks eTrailer!

Having to remove the bumper can feel like a daunting task, but I'm happy our video was able to guide you through the process! The hitch looks great! What are you planning on using it for?

I am working with Curt directly on this, but the picture of the pieces not letting the hitch sit flush is addressed in step 5 of the instructions (linked to this response). We also have an install video of this being installed on a 2018 XC60, which is the same generation), so I'm wondering if you maybe got one that is out of spec or something. Either way, I will let you know what Curt says as soon as I hear back from them.
